Not All Airport Security Personnel Are Spawn of Hell
Just heard from a friend of a friend that he had a very long chat on the wonderfulness of The Magicians’ Daughter with a security guard at Kennedy airport. The guard saw him carrying the book and wanted the friend of a friend to know he’d read it too. And liked it.
Or so my friend told me. Who knows what the real story was. Confiscation? Strip search for more incriminating contraband?
Sounds like an undercover investigation to me. They probably slap anybody carrying a copy of a Stoneways book on the people-to-watch list. The guard was covertly holding him in place while others ran a frantic deep-background check.

Or, as someone pointed out on LJ, a deep-ground check, ie burying them in the cellar.
